The story is brutality of mental illness
The man's hand trembled as he held up the gun before him, his body was shaking and he had tears in his eyes. He stood before a man of law.
“Sir please put the gun down,'' the officer said to the man. He held the gun up, never stopping to point the gun. They were in a clearing, them two, the man of law and the villain.
They were in a forest, with trees surrounding them, the sun's rays hitting them through the branches of the trees. The sun was setting, lighting the sky, with bright hues of pinks and purples, with some blues and yellows intertwined within the pinks and purples.
The temperature was hot with a cool breeze. It was beautiful, no, beautiful doesn't put into words how perfect the day was, that day there was no crime. Yet these two people stood facing each other, one with a gun in his outstretched arms, the other had his palms open facing the man with the gun.
“Give me a good reason to put down the gun,” the villain replied with vehemence towards the officer.
“You know what I did was for the good of the people,” the man of law answered calmly with the smallest shake of his voice.
“What people?” the villain said with a crazed laugh, “I ain’t see nobody harmed, in fact I ain’t see nobody at all.”
A rustling in the branches cut off the man of law's reply, as he jumped in fright, from a small sparrow taking off into the winds, probably out to feed his family.
The irony of the situation had the officer laughing, how can something be so peaceful yet be in imminent harm. He smiled at the villain and spoke, not just to the villain but to everything around him, “imagine being a sparrow in flight, going off to feed your kids, and while gliding through a tempest of love, an eagle swoops down and catches you in his claws. Is that not the way of life to be beaten by someone better than you? But life doesn't stop when a sparrow gets eaten, but when something less than a sparrow gets cut off from this tide we call life, why does it stop then? Answer me that and I will die in peace.”
The villain was speechless, but the gun didn't drop, his hands shook harder, and his tears rolled down his face as if there was no friction. His eyes rolled in hysteria, never focusing on anything. They stood there for some time facing each other as the villain thought.
“But isn't the eagle grateful for the sparrow? Without the sparrow the eagle won't survive, so isn't the sparrow just as important as the eagle?” the man replied, and to his delight the officer was frowning, and then it was the villain's turn to laugh.
The fractured light that came through the trees was beautiful, the yellow beams of light lit up the world to a yellow tinge, making the officer look sick. This doubled the villain's laughter. “And the eagle isn't important to anything so I think the sparrow is more important than the eagle,” the man continued through his laughter.
The officer was so dumbfounded he was at a loss for words, his reply was broken and incomprehensible, “but the eagle is of nobler blood, so that makes him more important.”
“And when does being high born make you better than someone else? You know this because you experienced it firsthand, didn't you break off from England? But why didn't you listen to the king if he was born of high blood? After all, he is a king, according to your logic, being high born makes you better,” the man of law's frown deepened by this proposal from the villain.
“Since when has logic been your strong point old fellow,” the officer countered.
“Since when did you start killing without thought, dear boy?” the man replied.
“When people started hurting others,” the man of law answered.
“Then that's when I started thinking,” the villain said.
The gun steadied itself as the man started laughing again. His laughter was from hysteria, the man went mad in the short time he was in the clearing. “You know what, you convinced me not to kill you, boy,” the man whispered to his friend.
The relief was plain on the officer's face, this increased the man's laughter, “I couldn't live in this mad world knowing I'm the only sane man left.” The man turned the gun around and said, “I'll miss you dear world.”
The gunshot echoed around the world. The villain fell slowly to the ground, when he hit the ground a thunder clap shook the forest, and the man of law jumped from relief, and fright.
